EATON CENTRE _ ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN _ SCULPTURE ENTITLED DE PLASTIQUE ET D’ESPOIR

The Montreal Eaton Centre invited all of its clients and the general public to recycle their empty water bottles by depositing them in containers shaped like giant water drops that were set up for this purpose. The thousands of bottles that were collected were used to create a monumental work of art designed by Phil Allard. The sculpture stood several stories high in the midst of the shopping plaza, with the ultimate objective of reaching the top level, which was accomplished thanks to the public depositing more than 70,000 bottles. The goal of this environmental sculpture, entitled De plastique et d’espoir, was to increase public awareness of the importance of recycling empty water bottles and the installation of a number of recycling containers at the Eaton Centre. This project received exceptional media coverage, with a multi-faceted focus on design, the cultural milieu, business and the municipal stage. The artist, Phil Allard, gave numerous interviews in the print and electronic media. The media campaign reached 11 million people.
